About Our Farm

Small Town Roots is a family farm and greenhouse in Alexandria, Indiana.  We provide organic, local, and affordable plants and produce to our community, while managing and protecting our ecosystems.  Our plants are grown from seed and our produce is always fresh from the field, so you can be sure you are buying the best quality products.

Mission Statement

Our mission at Small Town Roots is to provide our community with high quality, locally grown, organic produce and plants.  We are passionate about natural resource protection, and use sustainable agriculture to improve soil, waterways, and ecosystem health.  Through regenerative practices, reused/recycled equipment and containers, and ecosystem management we strive to provide high quality, affordable produce and plants.  We strive to improve our farming practices each season so we can improve the health of our ecosystems and produce nutrient dense, local food for our communities as well as provide education that promotes good stewardship and environmental conservation.  
 

Personal History

My name is Kim Richardson and my family started Small Town Roots in the Fall of 2023.  I have always had an innate interest in the protection of our natural resources.  I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Biology and a Master of Science degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Management.  After college, my family and I settled down on a 8 acre property in Alexandria, IN.  Our family has been gardening and growing most of our own produce for over 10 years.  Through this time we have cultivated an appreciation and love for locally sourced food and understand the importance of community collaboration in managing our natural resources and creating abundance for our family and our community.
